Spilling Hope Overview

Many organizations are mobilizing individuals to help those who cannot help themselves, both in Jesus’ name and for the greater good. Often we give out of pity for those who live in poverty, hoping one day the life we enjoy will be shared by all. But what if a world modeled after our own is not sustainable? What if those living in poverty do not need our pity, but for us to change the way we live our lives?

Spilling Hope is different in its approach to eradicating poverty. It’s about changing the way we live so we can support a better world for everyone. It’s about living simply and giving generously. It’s about breaking down the dividing wall that separates the rich from the poor, rather than living in ignorance and building it stronger. Jesus Himself began breaking down dividing walls during His ministry on earth and together we continue His work as we become the visible presence of the invisible God.

Believing that the resurrection of Jesus ushered a new way of living into our world, during the 50 days following Easter we will focus on changing lives. By challenging one another to live simply and utilize our resources differently by freeing up at least $1 a day for 50 days. We will continue to change lives by increasing our awareness of poverty and dividing walls, whether we are learning about clean water in Kampala, Uganda or prostitution on Aurora. Finally, at the end of 50 days, we will come together to give generously out of our abundance in order to bring change and hope to others.

In 2010 Spilling Hope is again focusing on the poverty surrounding the world water crisis, partnering with Living Water International to bring clean water to Uganda by using the proceeds of the 50 day challenge. Poverty isn’t someone else’s problem, it’s everyone’s problem. The good news is that it is a problem we can change together. Join us.
