When problems involve an unequal distribution of resources, it’s easy to fall into an “us vs. them” mentality—assuming one group has the problem and the other group holds the solution. However, the truth is that poverty is extremely complex. There is no immediate or simple solution, and we who “have a lot” have much to learn from those who “have less.”
Spilling Hope events and classes are designed to expose our assumptions and help us see things as they are. We encourage you to join us for at least one of our upcoming events:
Kick-off Night: Step into the Journey
Our first official event will allow you to experience, first-hand, what life is like in Uganda and Rwanda. This is a family-friendly event that will teach us not only about culture, but also the challenges and opportunities of people in these countries.
Wednesday, May 4, 6–8pm
Bethany Community Church, CE Building
Generous Justice Class
For those of you looking for an in-depth study of God’s calling on our lives to do justice, Richard Dahlstrom will be teaching a four-week class on Timothy Keller’s book, Generous Justice.
Registration is closed due to limited space.
Update: Class recordings are now available on our resources page!
Wednesdays, May 11–June 1, 6:40–8pm
Bethany Community Church, Classrooms A and B
Check out Richard Dahlstrom’s new book: Colors of Hope. If purchased on Amazon between now and Sunday June 12th, $2 per copy will go toward Spilling Hope.
Film Night
Our Film Night will teach us about water and poverty issues in Africa. Following the film screening, a panel of experts will discuss the film’s main themes, so bring a friend, and bring your questions.
Saturday, May 21, 7–9pm
Bethany Community Church, Sanctuary
Green Lake Water Walk
The Water Walk will enable us to symbolically walk in the footsteps of those without easy access to clean water. We will gain insight into the task of carrying water, and at the same time, our presence will serve as a visual reminder of water issues in East Africa.
Sunday, June 5, 12:30–3pm
Meet at Bethany Community Church, Sanctuary Patio
Bethany Community Church is located at
